Welcome

The Augsburg House of Prayer initiative is part of the Catholic Charismatic Movement.  It is our goal to establish perpetual intercession and worship: day and night. The House of Prayer is not a confraternity or a fellowship where people live together but basically just a prayer room which is open to the public about 50 hours per week. Teams made up of the 30 staff members take shifts in filling two-hour-slots of prayer meetings. These prayer times are

  • team-oriented
  • music combined with spoken prayers
  • charismatic (giving room to the gifts of the Spirit)
  • focussed on the word (the Bible is prayed and sung)

There are two main distinctive prayer formats

a.     Intercession

b.    Worship with the word

Intercession is the more active, „aggressive“ type of a prayer meeting. We intercede for the church(es) of our city, for a breakthrough of the gospel in our nation, our church and state leaders, for Israel and for the ending of abortion - just to name some major topics.

Worship with the word is the more „contemplative“ type. We sing and meditate on a certain passage of Scripture aksing the Holy Spirit to enlarge our understanding.

A worship and teaching night with Johannes Hartl is held every Thursday in the local parish church (12 Apostel Kirche) at 7:30 pm, drawing many visitors from all around.

With its emphasis on ecumenism the House of Prayer initiative is open for both Catholic and non-Catholic visitors, staff-members etc.
